Tefillin are usually worn for weekday morning prayers. First, place the arm tefillin on your upper arm, with its box toward your heart, and wrap the strap snugly—not tight; the Torah describes binding these words on the hand.
After the arm tefillin comes the head tefillin, positioned above the forehead between the eyes, with its knot at the back of the head. Its box has four tiny compartments for Torah passages—like a very serious little filing cabinet!
With the head tefillin in place, many people say a blessing as part of putting on tefillin. It’s a thoughtful little pause before prayer—like pressing “start,” but much more meaningful than starting your video game!
