SPITR-verse
Jesus was a Jewish teacher who lived about 2,000 years ago.
Jesus was a Jewish teacher who lived about 2,000 years ago. His teachings became central to Christianity, and Christians believe he is the Son of God and Savior.
The scroll held teachings, and Gospel stories tell that Jesus invited fishermen to follow him. Fishing nets take a lot of fixing—one tiny hole, and the fish get a surprise exit!
Fishermen weren’t the only people doing everyday work in Jesus’s time. Bread was a familiar sight, and Jesus sometimes used it in his teachings—fresh flatbread has a way of stealing the whole conversation!
Like bread, stories and teachings were part of daily life. Jewish people gathered in synagogues to pray and learn, and Jesus taught in synagogues too—quiet room, big ideas!
People learned teachings aloud, then later followers wrote accounts of Jesus’s life in the Gospels. Copying by hand took patience—one sneeze, and your ink might invent a very surprising word!
Later, written accounts of Jesus could travel from one community to another. A messenger carried them by road—those sandals were doing serious miles, with no wheels or phone signal!
As accounts of Jesus reached new places, communities gathered to remember his teachings. Early Christians often met in homes—and that little oil lamp is working overtime as the room’s tiny sun!
